Installing and Using Claude Skills with Your Hook Agents

How to request, install, and use Claude skills to extend what your Hook agents can do.

Using Claude Skills for Hook Agents

Hook's agents are powered by Claude. Skills are a Claude feature - reusable packages of specialist knowledge and instructions that are installed into Claude itself. When a skill is installed, your Hook agents can draw on this expertise and apply it consistently across your accounts, without having to explain it every time.

This article explains:

  • How to install skills in Claude for your agents

  • How to use Claude skills for updating agent prompts

👤 Managers and Technical Admins can configure agents in Hook. Skills are installed in Claude for the agents available to your organisation.

What is a Claude Skill?

A skill is a reusable capability that is installed into Claude. Where an agent's core prompt defines what it does day to day, a skill adds focused expertise on top. For example, a specific motion to run, a framework to follow, or knowledge about a particular part of your business. Because Hook's agents run on Claude, installing a skill in Claude makes that expertise available to your agents.

Skills are matched to the agents you have access to. The skills available to your organisation depend on which agents are used and how your Hook instance has been set up. The right place to start is always a conversation with our team about what you are trying to achieve.

Using Skills with Agents

Once skills are installed in Claude, direct how your agents use them in the same place you configure your agents.

  1. Go to your Organisation settings and open Agent configuration. You will need Manager or Technical Admin access.

  2. Select an agent.

  3. Adjust the agent's instructions so it knows when and how to apply the installed skill.

  4. Save your changes. Agents update on their next run, so refine and see the effect without starting over.

Getting the most out of skills

  • Be clear about the outcome. The more specific you are about what you want an agent to achieve, the better we can match it to the right skill.

  • Start small and review. Try a skill on a limited set of accounts first and review what the agent produces before rolling it out more widely.

  • Keep instructions tidy. When a skill is installed, make sure the agent's instructions reflect it so its behaviour stays predictable.
