How to Create Custom Briefs in Hook

Custom Briefs in Hook let admins build AI-powered account summaries that pull from your own customer data - so every rep on your team walks into every conversation fully prepared, without the manual prep work.

What is a Custom Brief?

Hook already comes with a set of built-in briefs out of the box:

  • External News – public company and industry updates

  • Prepare Me for My Next Meeting – a pre-call summary based on recent activity

  • Account Plan – a high-level view of account status and priorities

  • Renewal Likelihood – an explanation of the ML-powered health score (if enabled)

Custom Briefs go further. As an admin, you can build additional briefs tailored to your team's specific workflows - pulling from emails, calls, signals, usage data, and CRM history - and roll them out across your whole team so everyone is working from the same playbook.

Choosing What to Build

Before creating a custom brief, decide what problem it needs to solve. A good custom brief replaces something your reps currently have to cobble together manually from multiple tools. Check out this article for some best practice ideas.

Creating a Custom Brief

Custom briefs are built and managed by admins in Hook. To set one up:

1. Navigate to the The Brief settings in your Hook Organisation Settings, under UI Configuration

2. Select 'Add Brief'

3. Give your brief a clear name that reflects its purpose (e.g. QBR Prep or Champion Assessor) and a brief description that will accompany the brief

4. Write your brief prompt - this is the instruction that tells Hook what to summarise and how. Be specific about what you want it to surface. Reach out to [email protected] if you need any help in prompt writing

5. Select the tools the brief should draw from - you can think of these as the data sources that would be most useful for the brief. Check out this article for an explainer of each tool

6. Save and publish the brief to roll it out across your team.

Once published, the brief will appear in the Brief tab on each account page, alongside Hook's built-in briefs. This article shares more about how to interact with briefs on the account pages
