Unable to Deactivate a User in Hook

Troubleshooting errors when trying to deactivate a Hook user

Updated today

If you're seeing an error when trying to deactivate a user in Hook, it's likely due to one of the following three reasons. Follow the steps below to identify and resolve the issue.

Steps to troubleshoot

  1. The user is managing other Hook users: A user cannot be deactivated if they are currently set as the manager for other members in Hook. To resolve this, remove this user as the manager from any members they are managing, then try deactivating them again.

  2. The user's manager has been deactivated or deleted: If the user you are trying to deactivate is assigned a manager who no longer exists in the system, this will block the deactivation. To resolve this, remove the manager assignment from the affected user and then try again.

  3. The user's manager does not have the correct role: A user cannot be deactivated if their assigned manager does not hold a Manager-level role (for example, if their manager is set as a Member). To resolve this, either update the manager's role to Manager, or remove the manager assignment from the user you are trying to deactivate.
